Bacterial flagella are not related to eukaryotic flagella. Bacterial flagella are not membrane bound. A shaft passes from outside the cell through protein rings to basal body rings within the cell. The bacterial flagellum is not composed of microtubules. The filaments of the bacterial flagellum are composed of the protein flagellin. Rather than whipping from side to side, bacterial flagella turn like propellers. Repeated for emphasis, bacterial flagella are not related to eukaryotic flagella.
