The prokaryotic organisms comprise the kindgom Monera, which includes the bacteria, cyanobacteria, and archaebacteria. Prokaryotic cells are distinct from eukaryotic cells in that they lack membrane bound organelles such as vacuoles, endoplasmic reticula, or Golgi apparatus. Prokaryotes also differ from eukaryotes in that they contain only a single loop of DNA, while the DNA of the eukaryotes is found on chromosomes. Prokaryotic DNA also lacks the proteins found in eukaryotic chromosomes.
