Typically there is compact bone arranged around a center of spongy bone. Compact bone contains dense Haversian systems, which are organizations of bone layers, capillaries, and osteocytes. Within the center of spongy bone, there is often a bone marrow region where the genesis of erythrocytes, lymphocytes, and macrophages occurs.
