Aminoacyl-tRNA are high free energy (activated) compounds formed by means of a series of reactions involving pyrophosphate cleavage. Because of the high free energy of aminoacyl-tRNA, the subsequent formation of the peptide bond between the amine group of one amino acid and the carboxyl group of another is thermodynamically favorable.
