Reactions of Alkynes
Reactions of Alkyl Halides
|A useful reaction in synthetic organic chemistry involves the use of acetylide anion in SN2 substitution. Like Grignard and Gilman reagents, acetylide anion provides a source of nucleophilic carbon.|
Organic synthesis is an important topic in the traditional organic chemistry lecture course. For organic synthesis problems in the lecture course, students are called on to keep track of their growing collection of reactions that form new carbon-carbon bonds
Remember that MCAT emphasis has a different slant than lecture course emphasis. Some organic chemistry is more useful to future doctors, and some is more useful to future chemical engineers. Not all chemistry on the exam is going to fall in the first category, though. The distinction is simply an influence on the test, not a rule.
