The Prokaryotic Cell

The comparison and contract of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell structure is an important theme. Let us extend this discussion to the molecular level within the cell membranes of the two cell types. The phospholipids comprising the cell membranes of bacteria tend to have a much wider variety of fatty acids than the phospholipids of eukaryotic cell membranes. Furthermore, bacterial cell membranes also lack cholesterol or any other sterols.
