Conjugated π Systems and Aromaticity

Reactions of Conjugated Species

Conjugated systems are often the subject of MCAT passages. In allylic free radicals, allylic cations and conjugated dienes, electrons are delocalized over a π orbital shared by more than two atoms. The reactivity in conjugated systems display characteristics that are not accounted by the individual functional groups. This leads to tricky multiple choice questions, so take special care to study reactions involving conjugated reagents, or which involve conjugated intermediates.

The WikiPremed MCAT Course is a free comprehensive course in the undergraduate level general sciences. Undergraduate level physics, chemistry, organic chemistry and biology are presented by this course as a unified whole within a spiraling curriculum.
