The Eukaryotic Cell
|There are limitations to approaching the interior of the cell as an aqueous solution environment. This is because protoplasm is not a solution. Protoplasm is an organized colloidal complex of organic and inorganic substances. It is not homogeneous at the molecular level. It is a gel in which water is a primary component.|
Colloid chemistry, in fact, was started in the nineteenth century in response to the discovery of protoplasm.
